A number of laws have been passed that affect HRM practices and that protect the rights and safety of employees.

Some of these are :

  3. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, 
  4. The Equal Pay Act of 1963, 
  5. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 
  6. The Age Discrimination in Employment Acts of 1967 and 1986,
  7. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, 
  8. The Employment Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, 
  9. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988, 
  10. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 
  11. The Civil Rights Act of 1991, and
